Smart Policing: making the most of the data revolution
There is a huge potential for data to be used by the police. For example, predictive analytics can help provide police officers with detailed information to better prevent crime. It can provide data about past offences committed in an area – specific locations, times, and types of crime – enabling police resources to be targeted most effectively. However, concerns have been raised that the use of algorithms can build in bias, leading to the over-policing of some communities. Questions have also been asked about the quality of the data being used.
Reform is delighted to host this roundtable, led by Hacer Evans, Assistant Chief Officer and Director of the Digital Policing Portfolio, National Police Chiefs’ Council to discuss how best the data revolution can be used to create a smarter police force across the country.
The roundtable will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
